2018 Wildcard Recap

WILDCARD WEEKEND RECAP

This is definitely my favorite time of year. Four must-watch, drama-filled* games, two weekends in a row that I can give my full attention to. Pro football at its finest!

*There was like 5 minutes when HOU finally started to move the ball, but that didn’t last too long.

Before I get into the stats, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the recent winners who have given back some of their cash prizes in the form of a tip to me and Mark for our ‘dedication and hard work’ (their words, not mine). Your generosity is much appreciated, and I wanted to put that into words for all to see.

So… we had NINE(!) members who went 4 for 4 and now have 10 big points to start off the Playoff pool. Thirteen members with 9 points, ten with 8, and twenty-seven with 7 closely follow them. Lots of points being scored right off the bat for the top quarter of the league! On the flip side, we had four members throw up goose eggs and sixteen who didn’t make any picks at all. Apparently, some people don’t ever read my emails… owell. I won’t take that personally as it’s obviously their loss!

Overall, the 165 active members scored 921 points, which averages out to 5.58 points per player – which is above all but one season’s average for Wildcard Weekend, especially last year’s number…

January 2018 – 4.21 points per player
January 2017 – 6.04
January 2016 – 5.03
January 2015 – 4.85
January 2014 – 4.95
January 2013 – 4.96

Let’s try to do better next week kids!

The Overall top 10 going into the playoffs has seen a dramatic shift after the first round of games. We now have a 3-way (not the good kind) tie for 1st place between WALLLYMAC, MAJAHUITAS, and X-MEN16, but it’s a small 3-point lead. MAXWELL SMART — who finished the season in 2nd place — had a tough week, scoring zero points, and slipped all the way down to 17th place. And poor DESERADO26… dude only scored two points after falling out of 1st place last week and is now in 12th place. This shift has opened the door for people like WIZ49 and rookie SIGDAPLORABLE to crack the Top Ten. What will these standings look like next week after another four huge games?!

As far as the tiebreaker for the $500 Bonus Elimination Pool goes, current Overall leader WALLLYMAC dominated. Three of six people got their 4-point correct (the three losers took CHI), and of the three people left over, only WALLY got his 3-point game correct. He took SEA while the other two took DAL. I’m guessing WALLY will be sending my buddy A-Dogg’s cousin Sebastian Janikowski a nice fruit basket for not being able to kick that oh-so-important yet meaningless extra point since no one was able to make a proper onside kick right after! If DAL had covered, FAGE88 would have gone 4 for 4 and won the tiebreaker. Check out the BONUS KEY page to see the chart breakdown.

In the Rookie Race, we now have a 3-way (again not the good kind) tie for 1st place between WIZ49, RYAN_IS_NOT_MAYAN, and last week’s leader BRADELL, but there’s 4 rookies within 4 points.

RYAN_IS_NOT_MAYAN and BRUCE WILLIS still have a solid 10-point lead the Combo Race after the first round of playoff games.

Overall leaders, WALLLYMAC and MAJAHUITAS are also tied with 153 points in the Veteran’s Pool, which is 7-points above the two people currently tied for 3rd, but with 22 more points available over the next few weeks, it’s truly anyone’s title to take in all four races… Overall, Playoffs, Rookie, Combo, and Veterans!

Good luck y’all!
