SUPER BOWL RECAP

Helloooooo and good evening fellow sports fans!
All I wanted for the Super Bowl was a competitive game… and boy did we get one! And since there’s really nothing I can add to everything that’s already been said, I won’t. But mannnnnn, I sure do miss football already and it’s only been a few days…

The big winner this year is new-comer WILLY33, and gawd damn did he clean up! And really, we all shoulda seen this coming. Dude won not just Week 1 to start the year, but he also won Week 2. That’s a cool G right there and it was only mid-September at that point. He would go on to finish 3rd in the Regular season ($1,500), he took home both the Rookie of the Year prize ($250) and half of the Combo Race (free entry) with his jockey and last season’s top rookie BRADELL, a piece of the Perfect Week Bonus money ($400), and even though he took SF in the Super Bowl he finished in a 4-way tie for 5th place in the Playoff Pool ($125) and was able to hang on and win the big prize… 1st place OVERALL for an additional $3,500 and a grand total of $7,025 – that is truly amazing and clearly dreams do come thru!
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
We had 8(!!) members win over $2,000 including DEMO1 ($4,250), TONY M ($4k), OT617857 ($3,700 ), and MARXY ($2,900). All total, 43 people won money this year with an average of just over $1050 per person. Please see the accompanying Excel chart showing the full breakdown.
Here’s how WILLY33’s final total of 170 points stacked up to previous campaigns:
2009 – 162 scored by “SHADEBALL” CRUMB
2010 – 183 scored by COMMISH JMAC
(His regular season stats were soooo impressive and actually landed him in the Top 10 of the ENTIRE website – which means he did better than 1000s of people, maybe even tens of 1000s)
2011 – 159 scored by FRODIDLEY
2012 – 163 scored by BLUEBYEU
2013 – 158 scored by RKNRLL
2014 – 163 scored by DAVEG4867
2015 – 159 scored by PEYTONISAMO
2016 – 172 scored by J&T0228
2017 – 166 scored by TOMMYK11
2018 – 171 scored by THEKINGNBEEJ
Mark recently discovered some old Excel files on a seldom-used hard drive, so I hope to be able to add to the above numbers at some point (I said the same exact thing last season and the season before, but I’m serious this time…)
OVERALL
1st – WILLY33 ($3,500)
2nd – TONY M ($3,000)
3rd – DEMO1 ($2,500)
4th – OT617857 ($2,000) — told ya he was coming in hot all the way up from 46th place after Week 17
5th – SHUTCH05 ($1,500)
Quick note about this list… going into Super Bowl Sunday, the top four people all took SF which ultimately bumped two completely out of the winning and allowed two people (TONY M and SHUTCH) to sneak into the Top 5! If SF had actually covered, the payouts would look so so soooooo different right now!
REGULAR SEASON
1st – MARXY ($2,000) – can someone make sure this kid isn’t hiding under his bed afraid to face the world?
2nd – TOMMYK11 ($1,750)
3rd – WILLY33 ($1,500)
4th – DEMO1 ($1,250)
5th – MARCUSDUPREESOU ($1,000)
PLAYOFFS
1st – OT617857 ($1,500)
2nd – FAZIO113 ($1,250)
3rd – TONY M ($1,000)
4th – X-MEN16 ($750)
5th (tie) – SLEEZYTREES, KDOG63, WILLY33, & MRTOOMS ($125 each)
500 divided by 4 = 125
And a quick note about this list… going into Super Bowl Sunday, the top two people took KC and then the next 11 straight and 21 out of 25 took SF. So what happened to those four people in the mix that took KC? Well… they won money. The most dramatic jumps were made by X-MEN16 who went from tied for 20th all the way up to 4th and MRTOOMS who went from tied for 25th place all the way to up a 5th place tie. It’s truly never over… and again, If SF had actually covered, these payouts would look so so soooooo different right now!
PERFECT WEEK BONUS
1st part goes to Regular Season Champ – MARXY ($400)
2nd part goes to Overall Champ — WILLY33 ($400)
3rd part goes to Playoff Champ — OT617857 ($200)
VETERANS POOL
This “serious” battle between two long time members ended with a fart as both DEMO1 and MAJAHUITAS took SF to cover. But DEMO1 was far enough ahead to still take home the prize which is a free entry into next season AND $250 in cash!
BEST OF NOTHING
MAJAHUITAS (Free entry next season) – his world would be so different right now if only he had taken KC. Whoops!
LAST PLACE OVERALL
CHUCKLES69 (Free entry next season)
Now this I gotta talk about since the only rule to this prize is making picks for all 267 games (256 + 11). So CHUCKLES69 finished in spot 186, ahead of 14 other people, but for various reasons those members were automatically eliminated. The most common was missing picks during the regular season, but somehow make that one pick you missed, you play for free next year. Instead CHUCKLES69 slides in, and I’m sure this is a total surprise to him. A couple guys made picks all year and then ignored the Playoff Pool. But the one that really gets me is something that happened last season with a member named SEEMOREBUCKS – dude make all 256 Regular Season picks, all 4 Wildcard picks, all 4 Divisional picks, and both Championship picks, BUT for whatever reason didn’t make a pick for the Super Bowl. That is insane to me! And the reason I mention something from a 12 months ago is because that same person learned from his mistakes — he made all his picks during the playoffs. Well done!

IF YOU WON MONEY
Mark or Dan will contact you to set up payment. If desired, you can rollover all or part of your winnings and put it towards next year’s dues. Carrying money over to next season is preferred and very much appreciated. It’s at least one step less for both of us come September 2020 and cuts down on our endless administration duties.
Good luck to everyone and I hope all 200 members will join us again next season, but I know that won’t be happening. Every year we seem to lose 25-35 people, but that’s good news for anyone that is looking to get someone new into the league. There’s already a waiting list, so start telling your friends and family NOW about the best pick ‘em pool you’ve ever been involved with!
