DIVISIONAL WEEKEND RECAP 2021

Wow! Just wow! Two more great days of watching football have come and gone and this approaching Sunday cannot come soon enough! In my mind nothing beats the pro football post season, ESPECIALLY after what we just witnessed. I’ve read a few headlines calling this past weekend the best set of four playoff games EVER! And I think that might be hard to argue with! Three last second FGs for the win and then 24 unanswered points by Tommy TD to then to give up the tying FG with only 13 seconds left to move the ball?! Boy-oh-boy!

Check out these stats:

• Four out of four games were decided on the last play.

• A bonkers back-and-forth fourth quarter with 27 points being scored on five straight drives that ultimately ended in OT — though I really think the OT rules need to be tweaked. BUF should have been given a chance to match that TD. Or maybe just allow that in the playoffs… just seems unfair to me…

• Upsets of the #1 seed in each conference.

• The smallest combined margin of victory in the history of the divisional round (just 15 points – close to impossible to match or beat).

Moving on… this week only 6 members (including me!) went 4-4 to receive 10 big points, five got 9 points, and another five got 8 points. On the flip side, 20(!) people put up goose eggs and another 22(!) people scored only 1-point.

At the moment, BJACOBCARR leads the Playoff Race with 21 points (only missing on TENN for 1-point), BOSTONJOHN88 has 20 (only missing on GB for 2-points), CMCDONALD and SNAKE MYRER have 19, THE-DUKE has 18, and eight people (including me!) have 17-points, but since there’s a total 12 points still left on the board, many many MANY people have a shot to place.

As a whole, the 190 active members this week (clearly many folks have given up and stopped submitting picks) scored 749 points in the Divisional round, which averages out to 3.94 per player – by far the WORST average since I started keeping track 10 years ago, after last year’s best outing!

  • January 2021 – 6.53 points per player
  • January 2020 – 4.19
  • January 2019 – 4.93
  • January 2018 – 4.57
  • January 2017 – 6.52
  • January 2016 – 6.16
  • January 2015 – 4.46
  • January 2014 – 6.32
  • January 2013 – 4.41

Not good people!

OVERALL STANDINGS: JGILLESPIE478’s 3-point lead has evaporated after only getting a 4, while BAGGYPANTS got a solid 7, making the Overall race at tie at 180 with three games to go. DIGGIDYDOGG and T-BONE are now tied for 3rd place at 171, with CHRIS BARBAS rounding out the Top-5 with 170. MARKY and his 9 big points made the biggest jump this week getting all the way up to 7th.

ROOKIE RACE: If CHRIS BARBAS can hit one of the three last games, he’ll automatically be crowned Rookie of the year, as he has a 10-point lead over er’body else. But if he were to go 0-3, there are three members that could mathematically win or tie by going 3-0. Our fearless leader Mark must be so proud of his horse!

COMBO RACE: Boy is this race close! There’s 14 squads that are still alive. Sure most are long shots, but crazier things have happened. Currently MITSY THE GREEK / BAGGYPANTS lead by 3-points.

VETERAN’S POOL: JGILLESPIE478 and BAGGYPANTS are tied at 180 and have a lead of 11-points over WALLLYMAC. Clearly the Overall standings are wayyyyy more important, but $250 is still a good chunk of change!

With 12 more points available over the next few weeks, it’s truly anyone’s title to take in all five of the remaining races…

PLEASE NOTE: For the two games during Championship Weekend, you assign each game either 5, 4 or 3 points. The number that you do NOT use that weekend will be automatically designated as your Super Bowl value.

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO NEED IT AND WANT IT!!!

Dan
