Super Bowl Recap 2021

Helloooooo and please forgive me for the delay! Ever had one of those weeks were everything goes wrong? Car trouble, computer trouble, girl trouble, and THEN I lost power for five hours yesterday. Ugh. Anyways… I already miss football and it’s only been a few days… Boo hoo!

Payments have begun to be made and we want to give a big THANK YOU to those who laced the league with a little bit of gratuity! It’s Muy apreciado!

So there’s not much I can add to everything that’s already been written about this year’s Super Bowl, other than boy did it go fast, and geezus the officials were terrible. Like how am I pointing out false starts and offsides from the couch while 12 beers deep and they go uncalled? And in the biggest game of the year?

Amazingly of the 19 people who had a shot at placing in the Top 10 Overall, ONLY 4 of them (21%) took CIN to cover (and only 8 of the top 30 going in). And only two spots actually changed hands, T-BONE going from 2nd place and jumping BAGGYPANTS for 1st place due to having more “Key Picks”, and SPIDAH going from 12th to 10th and knocking out former champ DESPERADO right out of the Top 10. Clearly if the Rams had managed to cover somehow, all the payouts below would look a hell of a lot different to say the least!

Moving on… we had TWO big winners this year as both T-BONE and BAGGYPANTS won a combined total of $5500 EACH!

  • T-BONE: Week 13 (500), 3rd Regular Season (1500), and 1st Overall (3500)
  • BAGGYPANTS: 2nd Regular Season (1750), 2nd Overall (3000), 1PM (250), and Veteran (500)

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

CHEF PAT won $4600 and JGILLESPIE478 won $4500!

And there’s three guys who took home over $2,000 each:

  • MARXY (2250)
  • DIGGIDYDOGG (2125)
  • WTBRAD (2050)

All told, 52 people won at least their dues back this year, and two others won $166.67 for splitting a week with BRUCE WILLIS who also won Week 4. That works out to be an average of just over $488 per winner and 24% of the league got money. Please see the accompanying Excel chart showing the full breakdown.

Here’s how T-BONE’s and BAGGYPANTS’ final total of 183 points stacked up to previous campaigns (even though they had an extra 16 games to pick):

  • 2009 – 162 scored by “SHADEBALL” CRUMB
  • 2010 – 183 scored by COMMISH JMAC

(His regular season stats were soooo impressive and actually landed him in the Top 10 of the ENTIRE website – which means he did better than 1000s of people, maybe even tens of 1000s)

  • 2011 – 159 scored by FRODIDLEY
  • 2012 – 163 scored by BLUEBYEU
  • 2012 – 163 scored by BLUEBYEU
  • 2014 – 163 scored by DAVEG4867
  • 2015 – 159 scored by PEYTONISAMO
  • 2016 – 172 scored by J&T0228
  • 2017 – 166 scored by TOMMYK11
  • 2018 – 171 scored by THEKINGNBEEJ
  • 2019 – 170 scored by WILLY33
  • 2020 – 171 scored by DESPERADO26

DESPERADO26 (Free entry next season) – last season he dominated, this season he’s our bubble boy…

LAST PLACE OVERALL

JORDY SNEAKS (Free entry next season)

Now this I gotta talk about since the only rule to this prize is making picks for all 285 games (272 regular season games + 13 playoff games). So JORDY’s overall finish landed him in spot 209, ahead of 16 other people, but for various reasons those 16 members were automatically eliminated. The most common was missing picks during the regular season, but somehow make that one or two picks you missed, you play for free next year. A couple guys made picks all year and then ignored the Playoff Pool, or one guy only missed the Divisional picks and yet made allll the rest. Instead, JORDY slides in, which I’m sure this is a total surprise to him. One more tiny detail… going into the Super Bowl, SGTRICHIE15 was eligible for “Last Place Overall” but he took CIN, while JORDY took LAR, and the rest is history! A very fine line between a free entry and an awful season of picks…

Good luck to everyone in the off season and I hope all 225 members will join us again next year, but I know that won’t be happening. Every year we seem to lose 25-35 people, but that’s good news for anyone that is looking to get someone new into the league. There’s already a waiting list, so start telling your friends and family NOW about the best pick ‘em pool you’ve ever been involved with!
