Dear FTPL members,
Welcome to our PLAYOFF website! A full explanation of how the playoff pool works can be found when you click on the “MY PICKS” tab.
Before we jump in, Mark and I would like to give a big shout-out to all of those who felt the need to return some of their winnings back to us in the form of a gratuity aka tip. It’s truly appreciated, and it makes all our hard work and hours spent worth it in the end.
As a league, we finished off the regular season with back-to back positive weeks! Well done folks! The final total for good versus bad weeks is 8-9-1 with the 1 representing the one week we were at directly 50%. Overall, we finished at 49% for the season, and
since I started keeping track in 2015, the grand total is right at 50% for the last 138 weeks (which I guess makes sense mathematically), and in these past eight years, we hit 49% twice, 50% twice, and 51% four times.
1810 wins total out of 3525 games = 49% (223 people times 16 games, minus 29 no-picks on Saturday, and 14 1pm game son Sunday)
56 people had 10+ wins
93 were 9-7, 8-8, or 7-8
42 had 6 or less
Average score was 8.11
After the 1pm games, we had six people with 9 wins and seventeen with 8. Then going into Sunday night, we had three people with 12 wins, all of which took GB in the final game, leaving the door open for either a 3-way tie or an 8-way tie with a DET cover, which is exactly what happened – so we go to the total score tiebreaker…
FAJR and RYAN_IS_NOT_MAYAN guessed 44, EMAC124 guessed 46, KADERADE guessed 49, HE MAN WOMAN HATERS guessed 50, JUNKINS guessed 51, and BAGGYPANTS and JIMBRIANI2 guessed 52. Here’s what I think is the best way to illustrate each member’s window:
44 – 45 ||| 46 – 47 ||| 48 – 49 ||| 50 ||| 51||| 52
As seen above, we had quite the tight window with FAJR and RYAN_IS_NOT_MAYAN having 44 and under, EMAC had 46-47, KADERADE had 48-49, HE MAN WOMAN HATERS had 50, JUNKINS had 51, and BAGGYPANTS and JIMBRIANI2 had 52 and above.
Now back to the game… it started off slooooooow with 6-9 battle of the FGs in the 1st half along a few punts, some turnovers, and a missed FG by DET. The second half was much of the same but instead of FGs it was TDs, but not enough to get interesting. The final score was DET 20-16 with a 36-point total, and even if Rodgers and GB were able to score a late TD to win (he threw an INT instead) the total still would have been under 44. The split finish for FAJR and RYAN_IS_NOT_MAYAN is our THIRD weekly tie this season (one being forced due to the cancelation of the CIN@BIF game).
So with that said, I would like to give a big congrats to FAJR and RYAN for winning Week 18 with 12-4 records, for which each will receive $250. It’s RYAN’s first win in his three-year career (a 2018 rookie and took two years off) yet it’s far from FAJR’s first time. As a rookie in 2013, he finished in a 1st place tie in the playoff pool, won Week 12 and 4th place Overall in 2014, took off the 2017 season, hit a Super Bowl Square in 2018, won Week 18 last season, ANDDD won Week 1 earlier this year. That’s three wins in 19 weeks. Unreal!
For this week’s “getting to know your fellow members” section of this email, RYAN will have to win on his own to get one, and I’m going to reuse FAJR’s write-up from Week 1:
FAJR is a little man, one of the smallest, but not technically considered a midget. However, his size doesn’t reflect on how much of a great guy he is. In addition to being a great guy, he’s a big drinker who loves to drink but he doesn’t actually have a go-to drink. It’s like he spins a wheel in his head and whatever it lands on he’ll order, and then spins again. Could be what the guy next to him at the bar orders, or it could be the beer commercial on TV. There’s just no rhyme or reason with him. He also has been known to “spin” so much, he loses his car keys. And sometimes even takes other people’s keys by mistake. One-time years ago, a group of people were forced to go to his Mom’s house after 1am, wake her up since he was passed out and not answering the phone or door (she was not pleased) to find his pants and go through his pockets, looking for a set of keys that weren’t his. They found them, and he never even knew they were there. He is also known for stealing people’s food when placed close to him on the bar. One-time FAJR was lucky he was around friends as they saved him from getting dragged outside for an ass whooping over the theft of a dinner. The almost-beatdown took place at the fantastic Angelo’s in Brockton, and the bartender was able to cool it all down with an offer of free meals for all involved. He’s also been known to miss flights home when passed out in a hotel room and again, ignoring the phone and his friends pounding on the door. Lastly, FARJ has learned his lesson about losing his keys and/or taking others. Instead of bringing them into the bar, he’s now leaves them in the car. But that “fix” didn’t last too long… after eating at a Chinese restaurant one night, he came outside, and his car was gone. Guess that’s what happens when you leave your vehicle unlocked in Boogie Down Brockton!

• MOST CORRECT “KEY PICKS” OVERALL
LC12 went 16-2. That is amazing. SHE wins $500 plus another plus $150 of left-over money for a grand total of $650! Imagine the money this woman could win if she were to put $1,000 on every “Key Pick”
(left over money is from the three weeks after the second “Key Pick” Elimination Pool ended in week 15. $250 x 3= $750 divided by 5 = $150, with the other four being Most Correct “Keys” in-a-Row, “Key Pick” Elimination Pool #1 and #2, and the Bonus “Key Pick” Pool)
• TOTAL SCORE GOLF
SLEEZYTREES, who has been in the top 10 in Golf for most of the year, was able to squeak out a victory with help from his single-digit results 13 weeks in-a-row (Week 3 through 15) and finally his guess of 38.5 on a game that ended 20-16 for a difference of 2.5 points. One more TD in that DET@GB game and we’d have a different winner!
Lastly, the final average “stroke count” for the league ended up at a 146.16
